Regulation

ACX is committed to working with regulators and policy makers around the world to establish resilience and integrity for global carbon and environmental markets, through ACX’s regulated exchange, OTC, custody and settlement facilities.

As a catalyst in the development of transparent carbon and environmental markets, ACX works proactively to maintain the confidence of participants and the reliability of its market.

ACX Ltd. (ACX) and ACX Clearing Corporation Ltd (ACC) are located in the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), an international financial centre that applies English common law directly to its legal and regulatory regime.

ACX and ACC were granted recognition as a Recognised Investment Exchange and Recognised Clearing House respectively, by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority (FSRA) in ADGM in 2022. The licenses permit ACX to provide its market for environmental instruments globally, as well as for ACC to facilitate settlement and act as custodian for participant assets.

ADGM is the first jurisdiction to regulate carbon credits and offsets as environmental instruments, a class of financial instruments, and to license exchanges and clearing houses that operate both spot and derivatives markets. It has established a regulatory framework with robust requirements to ensure integrity and transparency in line with leading global investment exchanges.
